Žan Tkalec

Žan Tkalec was born on 18.5.1991 in Novo Mesto. His musical career started in the Music school Krško in the class of prof. Franci Arh. After completing primary music school he continued at the Conservatory of music in Ljubljana in the class of prof. Aleš Šnofl, where he graduated with honors in 2010. Now he's completing his master's studies on Academy of Music Ljubljana in the class of prof. Dušan Kranjc. At the competition of young Slovenian musicians (TEMSIG) he has received several gold medals and awards. In March 2012 he participated at an international competition SVIREL, where he also won and got special prize. He won a Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe (YMFE) 2014/2015 scholarship. During the school he attended the masterclass of professors such as Stefan Schulz, Edgar Manyak, Jamie Williams, Sven Strunkeit, Dietmar Kublbock and Jonas Bylund. He has appeared as soloist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Slovenia, the Slovenian Army Orchestra and wind Orchestra Krško. In 2010 he attended an international orchestra CEI Youth Orchestra and in 2011 EUYO (European Union Youth Orchestra).

Žan is currently a trombone player in Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. He recieved Students Prešeren award in 2019.
